To podcast a Good Shepherd service from the Kingston K-PEX 100, you need to install a WMA decoder, an audio sound editor and an MP3 encoder. Most of use the audio sound editor known as Audacity. If you are using version 1.3.7 (or later), it supports all of the capabilities we need to convert, edit, and write the sound files.
If you are using a different sound editor, you may also need a separate WMA converter. See the instructions below.
For an audio sound editor and MP3 encoder, most of us use the free software Audacity, which can be downloaded from Sourceforge. Go to the download directory, download the Windows installable package, and follow the directions to install it. We recommend that you install the 1.3.7 (beta) version of Audacity, and the directions below assume that.
In addition to Audacity, you will also need an MP3 encoder library called LAME and a WMA conversion library called FFmpeg.
Download the two DLL files lame_enc.dll and avformat-52.dll, and install them in the Audacity folder, which you probably installed in c:\Program Files\Audacity (or something similar). (The source for LAME is freely available from Sourceforge, but you won't need it.) Then start Audacity and register the DLLs' presence:
Click Edit
Preferences
Click the tab Import/Export
Toward the top, under MP3 Export Library, click on Locate...
Find the folder where you placed lame_enc.dll
Click OK and OK
Toward the top, under FFmpeg Import/Export Library, click on Locate...
Find the folder where you placed avformat-52.dll
Click OK and OK
If you are not using Audacity, you can use one of the following programs for a WMA converter:
The 1.3.7 (beta) version of Audacity directly supports WMA through a separate set of libraries. So you don't need a separate WMA conversion program.
The free media converter MMconvert, which can be
downloaded from Sourceforge.
Go to the
download directory, and download MMConvert Full Version version
1.0.5.236.
Or
The free version of the WinAmp media player, which can be downloaded from Winamp. Go to the download directory, download the Full Windows installable package, and follow the directions to install it. Be careful about some of the free addons that can also get installed with the Full package; there is an opportunity during the installation to uncheck those options.
After installing WinAmp, start it up
Click Options
Preferences.
On the left side, select Plug-ins/Output.
Select the Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in and click Configure.
Check the boxes "Output to directory containing source files" and "Display 'save as' dialog for every file".
Now whenever you open a .WMA file, you will be asked to save it as a .WAV file.
